In the bed of the Godavari, and also towards the foot of the hills, they are often tinged superficially with a brick-red colour, doubtless derived from the thin beds of red bole found in the higher parts. The rocks are frequently fissured and cracked, and the cavities are filled with different minerals, such as rock crystal, agates, calcite, zeolites, &c. Doleritic trap is also very frequent, in every stage of decomposition, and in peculiar concentric forms. Porphyritic trap containing glassy crystals of felspar occurs in the bed of the Godavari.
